CROSSFIT INTENSE SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM (CRISP)
The CrossFit Intense Scholarship program promotes non-medical healthcare and believes that the healthy lifestyle choices people make in terms of diet, exercise, and community engagement can prevent chronic disease, the greatest health crisis facing the world today.
According to the West Virginia Health Statistics Center, West Virginia Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System Report of 2016, West Virginia ranked 1st highest in the nation for the prevalence of poor physical health, poor mental health, and activity limitations due to poor physical or mental health; the prevalence of obesity in West Virginia was 37.7%, which was 1st highest in the nation; and, West Virginia ranked 1st highest in the nation in the prevalence of heart attack (7.5%) and coronary heart disease (8.0%), ranked the 7th highest in the nation in the prevalence of stroke (4.4%), and the overall cardiovascular disease prevalence was 1st highest in the nation at 14.6%. All of the aforementioned health issues can be directly addressed and even reversed through an increase in physical activity and by participating in a strength and conditioning program by experienced coaches.
Once a person commits to making a change in their health and fitness, we see an increase in their quality of life along with increased postive interactions and attitudes with friends and family members. CrossFit Intense believes that by awarding scholarships to those persons truly interested in being fit and healthy, we are creating a better life for not only the scholarship recipient, but their friends, family and ultimately their community.
